I first met Doug and Sandy of McKinley Springs Wines at a tasting they hosted a few weeks back at Ava Wine Rooms in Kennewick, WA. Whitney Maldenado, one of the owners of Ava Wine Rooms, mentioned that McKinley Springs Wines had been flying off the shelves and later Doug came over and introduced himself.
I was immediately impressed by Doug’s quiet and confident demeanor, and after visiting their place I understand where that comes from. They are definitely off the beaten path, about 12 miles up the hill from the Columbia River, deep in the heart of the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. And definitely worth the trip.
It is so calm and peaceful. After we finished the interview, Doug, Sandy and I sat on the deck and finished the bottle. It was one of the most relaxing times I have had in a very long while. I took another bottle of the ’04 Cabernet home with me. Here’s to peaceful times with a good bottle of wine shared with friends.
