Today’s episode finds me at She She’s in Historic Downtown Kennewick, WA (116 W Kennewick Ave) I hung out with Sandy and Wisteria (lucky me). And although this store is chock full of girlie stuff and is named She She’s, a lot of he he’s come in here too. Why, you may ask? Well, duh – what better place to find the coolest gift in town for that special female in your life, whether it be wife, girlfriend, mother, daughter – you get the picture. And guys – THEY GIFT WRAP FOR FREE.
We also sampled a tasty Cabernet blend from Sagelands Vineyard. And speaking of wine, they also have some very stylish and fun wine accessories, which ties in with Zinful, the wine bar and panini grill they are opening next door. Though not opening for a couple of weeks, you can get a sneak peak this Thursday evening, May 7, during the Thursday Art Walk in downtown Kennewick. See ya there!
What fun! Hangin out at the back of a casino parking lot drinking wine with a couple of guys at 9am. Seriously. These guys have a great business model that works for both them and the customers. Extremely low overhead, no salesman on site (call if you see something you want to talk to them about, they can be there within minutes), smaller selection of inexpensive cars and trucks, and honest upfront descriptions of what you are getting. Where were these guys when my kids were first needing transportation?

Joanne is a painter who works primarily in oils. She really likes pleine aire painting and we had hoped to do a “pleine aire” video, but the weather and the barking dog next door thwarted our plans. I especially like her paintings of the alpacas and the western themed art.
We also shared some of Bookwalter Winery’s ’08 Couplet, a blend of Chardonnay and Viogner. I really enjoyed hanging out with Joanne. She was just so calm and relaxed.

We took an evening vineyard horseback ride with Giddyup Tours. The weather was absolutely perfect and the views were stunning. From the top of Olsen Hill you have a 360 degree view of the Horse Heaven Hills and the Rattlesnake Mountains, surrounded by some of the best wine grape growing AVA’s in Washington.
At the top we watched the sun go down as we sipped our Olsen Estate Riesling, the perfect end to a perfect trail ride. Thanks Jennel and Kim!
Kristin Eggleston and her partner Lorri Carr are opening a new midwifery clinic, Sunrise Midwifery, in Prosser, WA. They are having their grand opening and open house on May 5, 8am – 8pm, which also happens to be International Midwifery Day. The address is 1126 Meade Ave, Suite A, Prosser, WA
Check the website for questions on services, fees, insurance coverage and service area. Free initial consult that lets you find out who they are and if home birth may be the right choice for you.
Laura has just opened up a new studio in downtown Kennewick, WA. It is a great space with a very welcoming gallery area as well as room for her art classes. Check out her website, Gable Arts, for class schedules.
I really like Laura’s work and actually am in the process of buying one of the pieces that you see in the video. I will leave it up to you to figure out which one.
When she talks about connecting with the story behind a piece of art, and knowing that you should own it, she is talking about me. We had a good laugh over that one. Stop into her gallery and have a chat. She has lots of good stories. Maybe you will connect with one.
Laura also has a new blog, What’s on the Easel?, which shows some of her work in progress. Log on to see how far she has progressed on the nest painting.
Russell Creek Winery in Walla Walla, WA is a great little place. You actually walk through the barrel room to get to the tasting room. They have art and wine nights every Thursday and Friday evenings, with an experienced artist on hand to give instruction (and the wine, I suppose, to add inspiration).
We tasted the ’06 Sangiovese and the ’05 Syrah, both excellent and scoring well with Wine Spectator. I am not a big fan of the point system, but in this case they got it right. I left with a bottle of the ’03 Cabernet, which I am really looking forward to.
When visiting, be sure to check out the collection of old winemaking equipment as well as some of the old labels. Winemaker Larry Krivoshein is an interesting guy and the story behind the “Diggers” label is lots of fun.
Yes, this is a rerun of a previous segment. The audio was messed up when it first posted, so I decided to give them a second shot today. If you missed it the first time, enjoy!
