I had a blast at the 39th Annual Tri-Cities Wine Festival at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick last Saturday night! I seized the opportunity to try out my new 3 gimbal stabilizer for video with my cell phone. It worked really well, most of the awkwardness came from operator error. Hopefully I’ll get better as I gain experience using it.
There were over 70 wineries represented, and over 200 wines available for sampling. Below is some video I shot while making the rounds doing some tasting. College Cellars in Walla Walla won double gold and best of show for their 2017 Muscat.
Next year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, November 17th.
I had so much fun shooting this for SkyLite Cellars. Ashley was so easy to work with and Ernie the dog loved the spotlight! This is a special place, with the architecture taking it’s cue from a wine barrel. They have a great outdoor seating area with a fire pit, and a very comfortable secret little room upstairs for some peace and quiet. And winemaker Greg Matiko has been winning lots of awards recently. Be sure to stop by on your way into (or out of) Walla Walla. You won’t be disappointed!
Skylite Cellars is a great little place and today we are featuring not one but two videos of them. The first was done in the winery, which is a very cool building, modeled after a wine barrel. We taste some of their award-winning wine and chat with Asst. Winemaker Greg Matiko and owner Cheryl Hodgins. They have a great upstairs lounge area adorned with commissioned art works by Michael Stockdale, depicting humorous scenes from around the winery. He is a French painter who has also created their famous Hiney Wine labels.
The second video features Cheryl and Courtney at their downtown Walla Walla location, Skylite Cellars at the Gallery. They have transformed a corner of the Skylite Gallery into a lovely tasting bar, that gently descends into their aptly named “Barrel Room.” A wonderful place to relax and enjoy great art as well as great wine.
